*SPECIAL ALL AGES SHOW* Celebrate the legacy of San Marcos-born jazz pioneer Eddie Durham, an American jazz guitarist, a pioneer of the electric guitar in jazz, a trombonist, and one of the most important composer–arrangers of the Swing Era. Born in 1906, Durham started his career in San Marcos with the Durham Brothers Orchestra. By the 1930s, he was writing, arranging, and performing big band jazz for the likes of The Count Basie Orchestra and Glenn Miller. In joyous tribute to this legendary Texan, our stage will feature an absolutely stellar big band including members of the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Count Basie Orchestra, and Harry Connick Jr’s Big Band, with local luminaries filling out the sections—performing music Durham wrote for Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Jimmie Lunceford, and more! This show will also be available via livestream at parkerjazzclub.com/livestream. Online donations welcome. All proceeds benefit local nonprofit Texas Jazz Society.
